Our May 2017 auction offers two days of fine decorative works and important collections.  Jewelry, Modern Works of Art, Rare Southern Furniture, Asian Arts,  American and European Furniture, Fine Paintings and Works of Art, and much more.

Featuring: Property from the Collection of Marjorie S. Fisher, Palm Beach, Florida - Philanthropist, loving mother, noted collector, and Co-Founder of the Max and Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation, Marjorie Fisher died at her home in Palm Beach, Florida surrounded by her family at the age of ninety two.

Rarely are remarkable collections assembled by accident. They are built as a result of a refined curatorial eye, careful selection, and a bit of fancy. The Fishers were well known collectors of Georgian and Continental furniture and Decorative arts, Modern and Impressionist art, as well as

Mrs. Fisher’s fabulous jewelry collection, termed “The Stuff Of Dreams” in the Sotheby’s Fall Jewelry auction. Collecting aside, Marjorie Fisher continues to be best known for her philanthropy to non-sectarian charities, particularly in Detroit and in Florida. The Fisher children follow their mother’s philosophy of “all giving starts with your heart, and then use your head”, quietly advancing their mother’s vision of enriching humanity by strengthening and empowering children and helping others.

Also Featuring: The Estate of June Montague Ficklen, Greenville, North Carolina - June Montague Ficklen, a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was educated at Salem Academy and Finch Junior College in New York. A year later, she studied painting and drawing at Ecole Paul Colin in Paris. Her professional life included working at the Winston Salem Journal, scouting new destinations for the British airline BOAC, working for a travel agency in New York and founding her own travel agency in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 1960, she married James Skinner Ficklen, Jr. and moved to his hometown,

Greenville, North Carolina. They traveled the globe, collected antiques and artwork, built their beautiful home, and spent summers at their cottage on Atlantic Beach, North Carolina.  During this time, June served on multiple boards of directors, including the North Carolina Art Museum, the North Carolina School of the Arts, the Greenville Art Museum, and Kenmore, George Washington’s sister’s home in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  In 2005 she founded Women for Women, dedicated to supporting women and girls in Greenville and Pitt County, North Carolin.  She was a member of the Junior League and the Colonial Dames of America in North Carolina.

Online Only Decorative Arts Auction - Session Two

Gallery Exhibition:

Saturday, April 22 - 9am to 1pm
Wednesday, April 26 - 10am to 4pm
Thursday, April 27 - 10am to 4pm
Friday, April 28 - 10am to 4pm
Saturday, April 29 - 8am to 9am

Additional Information:

A variety of other decorative items will appear in the Decorative Arts online auction on May 1st and 2nd. The sale includes jewelry, toys, furniture, folk art, silver, and decorative items in a wide array of prices. The sale will feature Part I of the Jim and Patricia Doherty Paperweight Collection as well as the James Cotton collection of British commemorative Staffordshire. This sale will also include another large collection of match safes.

Online Only Auctions at Pook & Pook are live auctions, not timed auctions. They run just like a regular salesroom auction with the lots being sold one at a time in lot number order. The only difference is that there are no bidders in the salesroom or on the phones. All bidding, both live and absentee, is taking place online through online bidding platforms. You can leave absentee bids up until a few minutes before an item sells. You can also bid live when the item crosses the auction block. Once the item is live, outbid notices cease. When the bidding slows down, a five second countdown begins. If nobody clicks bid during that five second countdown, the clerk then clicks ‘sold’. If someone does click bid, the countdown clock resets itself to five seconds and the countdown begins again. For the Online Only Auctions, we sell approximately 150 lots per hour. If you have any additional questions about how our Online Only Auctions work, please call (610) 269-4040 or email info@pookandpook.com. The buyer’s premium for this auction is 25%.
