A coat sewn from a red and black vintage Japanese silk plaid. In contrast to the staid order of the plaid, I've appliqued swirling, chaotic lines over the entire coat. The lines are skinny bias tubes of silk, cut, sewn, turned inside out, ironed flat and hand appliqued in place.
Garment measures 58 inches bust, 59 inches hips, length at center back 39 1/2 inches.
All pieces are hand made one at a time in my Portland, Oregon studio. Fabrics are vintage Japanese silks. These very special fabrics were woven, stenciled, tie-dyed and painted by Japanese artisans. Many were still in the bolt on their way to become kimonos. Others had been sewn into kimonos but were no longer wearable. I remove the hand stitching, wash and prepare the fabrics for their new life. Each piece I make is unique, most are one of a kind. I ship USPS priority at the beginning of the week.
