Watercolour and pencil on toning paper, depicting a woman cutting coconuts, with others dining in a rustic, tropical setting, with another woman carrying jugs in the rural setting at the background (perfectly matches Zalce's focus on working people), signed and dated 1937 in the lower left corner, also inscribed Manzanillo. Col. (for Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico, which indicates it was likely painted during one of Zalce's travels or residences in that region). Double matted with silk on board under glass and carved wood frame, overall 21-5/8" x 21-1/8". Provenance: old private collection, Pittsburgh, PA, since first half 20th c., by descent in the family to the current owner.
Condition
Very good, not inspected out of frame, light undulation to paper, some wear to silk matting and frame.
