Wheel of Life thangla is a significant symbol in Tibetan Buddhism, visually represents the Buddhist concept of samsara, the cycle of existence characterised by birth, death, and rebirth, driven by karma and the "Three Poisons" (ignorance, attachment, and anger). The thangka is divided into sections illustrating different realms of existence, the cause and effects of actions (karma), and the interdependent links of suffering. It serves as a teaching aid in Buddhist monasteries and temples, offering a visual guide to understand the nature of sufferings and the path to liberation.
The entire wheel is depicted as being held by a fearsome figure, commonly identified as Yama, the Lord of Death, or Kala, the Lord of Time, symbolising impermanence.
Condition
Good, some creases, light wear to thangka, some losses to frame.
