Peacemaker 2017 Porcelain and Chinese Fabric 5 1/2 x 11 1/2 x 9 inches
Keiko Fukazawa (Born 1955) works with porcelain to create sculptures that question social norms, political power and the adulation of autocratic leaders. The works are never harsh but curious and investigative. One sees that in “Peacemaker”, which projects tenderness and optimism rather than bullets. A gun covered in flowers (one Fukazawa’s specialties, modeling them with finesse) is not a tool of death but is indeed an object of peace. It is non-lethal and comes in an elegant custom box in which the piece can be stored, placed on a table to delight anyone who might open the lid. Fukazawa is represented by Gerald Peters Projects, Santa Fe, NM.
