Crucible Series 2017 Ceramic, 19 x 18 inches
Tony Marsh (Born 1954) is soaring. He drew tremendous attention on the Frieze Art Fair in New York this year in competition with hundreds of artists and thousands of works. His “Crucible” ceramic series was singled out as among the “best of the fair” in nearly every review, including the New York Times. We are honored to offer one of the finest of his “Crucible Series”; white, black, blue and monumental. The clay component of this work is thin walled with complex glazes built up and applied thickly, several inches deep. This is an opportunity to acquire a major work. Marsh is Professor of Art and program chair of the ceramics department at California State University, Long Beach, CA, for the last 25 years. His work is in numerous museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; the Museum of Art and Design, NY; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA; and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. This work ships from Santa Fe and due to its weight and size shipping cost need to be determined at the end of the auction. Marsh is represented by Gerald Peters Projects, NM; Lora Reynolds Gallery, Austin, TX; Harvey Preston Gallery, Aspen, CO; Pierre-Marie Giraud, Brussels; Koenig & Clinton, Brooklyn, NY.
