Black Dreams 32016 Black Porcelain, 10.5x10.5x5 inches
Zemer Peled (Born 1983) is a fast rising star. Israeli born, she is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, London who now lives in Los Angeles. Her work is made from ceramic elements that are inserted much like pins into hair, building works that are often huge in scale. They take zoomorphic or biomorphic shapes that can charm or intimidate. The different colors of these pegs allow her to play with color rhythmically in 3-D, a method distinctly sculptural. She achieves a tactile surface that she manipulates to open and close the viewer’s access to the works inner core. The use of porcelain is part of the content, a material we associate with perfection and presented here by what are essentially broken shards. This is piece, elegantly black and slouching down into a fringe of ceramic elements has considerable graphic power. Recently Peled had the rare honor of being invited to create a limited edition blue and white dinner service, In Bloom, for Bernardaud, the legendary a porcelain factory in Limoges that was founded in 1863. She is represented by Cynthia Corbett Gallery, London, UK and Allouche Gallery, New York.
