9.5x47R caliber, 29 3/8" octagonal barrel, S/N 1578 on the interior of the frame, and partially appearing on the trigger. The barrel is marked Waffenfabrik Steyr in inlaid gold, and features an adjustable folding rear sight. An inlaid gold band also appears at the breech. The frame is casehardened, and features beautifully engraved open scrollwork in the Germanic style, with engraved borders. All of the screws appearing on the frame, hammer and breechblock are also finely engraved. The hammer features a Norwegian style thumb safety mechanism, and also features engraved borders, along with the rolling block. The European walnut stock features deluxe checkering, along with a raised cheekpiece and an engraved cupped buttplate. With sling swivels on the underside of the butt and barrel. To our knowledge, this is the only known Steyr rifle built with a rolling block action. From the Jack Appel collection.
The barrel displays nearly all of the original blue finish, with all of the gold inlay present. The frame, hammer and breechblock display brilliant case colors, with some graying on the edges and on the tang. The stock has some very minor loss around the upper tang, and aside from minor nicks and dings, is in very good condition. The bore and the action are excellent.
