American (New England), late 18th-early 19th century. A sack back Windsor armchair in black-over-green paint, having a seven-spindle back, a saddle seat, ring-turned arm supports, and shaped handholds, all rising on splayed, baluster and ring-turned legs joined by an H-stretcher; oah. 37.25 in.
Sturdy. Some surface wear and imperfections as would be expected with age and use. Some small spots of paint flaking/loss. Crack to lower part of crest rail where it connects to the right, medial arm support. Crack on rear of one back spindle near top. Seat with a couple of age splits and surface patches. Rear seat rail with a couple of scuffs/dings. Back two feet cutout in the center. Possible height loss.
