Carved Santo Domingo Mahogany Tester Bed, mid 19th c., the headboard with an urn crest over relief carved scrolls, carved on the front and back, with twist carved and reeded posts joined by relief decorated rails and footboard, lacking the tester, H.- 100 in., Int. W.- 68 1/2 in., Int. D.- 73 1/4 in. Provenance: This bed belonged to the Danish Governor of the Virgin Islands, who sent Santo Domingo mahogany to Germany to construct the bed, and it was sold in 1933 by his granddaughter to Georgie Robinson Nadler in Tallulah LA., then descended in her family.
Condition consistent with age and use. Wear and tear befitting age. Water drips on one rail. Scuffs to front of proper right rear post and proper right front post. Patch on proper left front post interior 2" x 2". Crack in rope twist proper left head post. A handsome example.
