Marc Chagall (French/Russian, 1887–1985)
Attributed / Manner of.

A striking large-scale composition inspired by the poetic and symbolic universe of Marc Chagall, rendered with exceptional vibrancy and emotional intensity.

This visually captivating painting unfolds as a dreamlike narrative filled with floating figures, lovers, animals, and symbolic gestures arranged across a luminous yellow and red field. The composition evokes a sense of movement and storytelling, where gravity dissolves and characters drift freely through a surreal atmosphere—one of the most recognizable hallmarks of Chagall’s artistic language.

The radiant yellow background dominates the scene, acting as a field of light and memory, while bold reds introduce contrast and emotional depth. Figures appear suspended in time—some walking, others floating—creating a layered visual dialogue between earthly life and imagination. The presence of intimate scenes, musicians, and village-like elements reinforces the folkloric and autobiographical spirit associated with Chagall’s work.

Executed with expressive brushwork and vibrant tonal contrasts, this piece channels the essence of Chagall’s mature style, where color, symbolism, and narrative merge into a unified poetic vision. The composition functions not only as a decorative statement but as a storytelling surface rich in emotional resonance.

The verso presents multiple labels, certification-style stickers, and handwritten annotations, including a reference to “Marc Chagall” and a dated inscription (“Painted in 1983”), contributing to the piece’s visual and historical character. These elements enhance its appeal as an object with presence and narrative beyond the front composition.

Marc Chagall remains one of the most influential figures in modern art, celebrated for his ability to transform memory, love, and folklore into timeless visual poetry. Works inspired by his style continue to command strong attention among collectors worldwide.

A bold and highly decorative composition ideal as a centerpiece, offering both visual impact and cultural appeal within the modern art market.
