Chicago III is the third studio album released by American rock band Chicago in 1971. James W. Guercio produced the album. Chicago would go on to record many future records on the ranch. After gaining worldwide success and touring for most of 1970, Chicago recorded an album reflective of their experiences on the road, which inspired exploration into new genres and sounds as evident in this album and those to come. With the ongoing Vietnam War, Chicago included an album poster featuring the band members decked in period uniforms of American soldiers-making a statement along with the American flag album cover.
