Artist's Description:
A portrait of your family (and pets!) in a favorite setting with your things around that make you feel cozy or have a special meaning in your life. I'll come to your home one day for about an hour or two, maybe three. I'll sketch out a composition, take a million photos, and get to know you and the family a bit, feel your vibe and go back to my studio and paint it!
I work a bit slow so this is a process. I begin with a tonal under painting and check in with you a long the way to make sure you are happy with the progress before I finally start the transparencies of oil color on top. This process usually takes 3-6 months. But it's worth it.
“What fun it is when Daphne Confar paints your portrait. We started by choosing the perfect setting in our home. The kitchen? The den? The living room won. Then we added all the personal touches. The side table has a framed photo of our kids; an early dating photo of my husband of me; and a black-and-white photo from his hippie days. The plant along the window frame is one he’s nursed along for years and the books on the coffee table are favorites. We wanted our pet fish George included so Daphne added a portrait of him on the wall. First, Daphne sketched us on a canvas, then took loads of photographs. The entire ‘sitting’ took under three hours. After that, she went off to her studio, sending us updates along the way…the flushed-out drawing…the underlay of color. The only change we made was when I added bangs. What we love most is how the painting captures so much of our little world, without taking itself too seriously. This isn’t some pompous ancestral portrait…it’s a Daphne Confar portrait – that always makes us smile.” - Buyers of a Daphne Confar Portrait
