Taino Rank Mask/Guaiza (1000-1500 CE). This type of mask supposedly represents a Chief's likeness. They were given as a tribal bond between Chiefs. The gifted chief (cacique) would wear the mask as a symbol of kinship. They were usually made of shell and in very limited numbers. Length: 2.3" (6 cm).
