Michael Patterson (Born 1953) American, Watercolor on Paper Expressionist Forest. Watercolor painting captures a rocky woodland scene with a fallen log spanning a small stream, using loose brushwork and a cool palette of blues and greens to highlight the textured stones and dappled light. Signed lower left, dated 1987.
Overall Size: 17 3/4 x 21 1/2 in.
Sight Size: 10 1/2 x 14 1/2 in.Works that range from figurative scenes to abstraction, shaped by decades of travel and experimentation. Born in Hudson, New York, into a family of artists, he studied painting, printmaking, and sculpture at SUNY Purchase and developed a style attentive to light, texture, and everyday visual moments—from city streets and coastal scenes to intimate human subjects. Patterson has lived and worked in various locations, including extended periods in Europe, and has exhibited widely in both the United States and abroad. His later work increasingly explores abstraction through layered color, movement, and tactile techniques, and his paintings are held in numerous private and corporate collections, reflecting a long, evolving career rooted in observation and personal experience.
