This STACKED + PATCHED Foyer Table is a grand transitional piece of furniture designed to elevate the entry foyer of any space. Made from salvaged Walnut, the base’s scalloped shape was created in Richard’s signature STACKED style. Think coil pottery…or 3D printing, but analog. Piece by individual piece, layer upon layer, he additively sculpts the form, controlling both the wall thickness while at the same time defining the overall profile. Once constructed, Richard reductively shaped the exterior using a variety of hand held tools, resulting in a honed quality with subtle undulations similar to that of hand built ceramics.
The PATCHED tabletop is an evolution of Richard’s STACKED process. However, instead of making thousands of tiny blocks from small scraps to create the form, he utilized full sized scraps as larger building blocks, adding tenons/joinery where necessary, ensuring the stability of the finished top. The result is reminiscent of a Gee’s Bend patchwork quilt.
As with all of Richard’s work, the entirety of this piece was built, sculpted, and finished entirely by his hands.
