- Lot Description
An Exceptionally Rare Sterling Silver Edition of the Warren Cup, 2000.
.925 sterling silver with a gold vermeil liner. 369.9 grams.
An exceedingly rare and exceptionally accurate sterling replica of the 1st century Roman original.
Produced from an electrotype mould created by Sir Claude Hankes, the owner of the Warren Cup before the British Museum's purchase in 1999. Hanks made a very limited edition of the cup (believed to be only 6) before the sale to the British Museum, which in 1999 was the most expensive single acquisition ever made by the British Museum.
Maker's Mark: "V A" enclosed in a diamond (Visibility Arts, later Eurypylus [2000-2010]);
Town Mark: Uncrowned Leopard's Head (Hallmarked in London, England);
Fineness Mark: Lion Passant (Sterling Silver);
Date Marks: Millenium Mark & lowercase "a" (2000).
Height: 4 5/8 in. (11.8 cm.)
Diameter: 4 1/4 in. (11 cm.)
Weight: 369.9 grams.
Condition
Nothing adverse to note, patination consistent with age.
