• Lot Description
  Tour de force Watercolors on Paper utterly 'Fool the Eye', transforming a two-dimensional rendering into a deceptively three-dimensional image. Double-sided, they each depict an open Book from the front and back. WINTER EVENINGS AMUSEMENT, Volume 1, appropriately 'open' to CHARADES, an apt description of the visual, artistic masquerade that is being effected. Volume 2 is open to ENIGMATICAL BOUQUET / RIDDLES which ironically characterizes the mystery of their purpose and use. Found in the attic of the Massachusetts Knapp/Reed Colonial House that faces Plymouth Rock and were gifted to the dealer I purchased them from. c. 1850 8" x 10", 8 1/2" x 10"
