Biography: Adrien Etienne Gaudez was born in Lyon, France on the 9th of February 1845 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine on the 23rd of January 1902. He was a student of Francois Jouffroy at the Ecoled de Beaux Arts in Paris in 1862. Adrien Gaudez made his debut in the Paris Salon in 1864. Later, in 1870 he was a prisoner of war in Germany in the town called Magdenburg. During this period he sculpted the monument to the French soldiers who died in captivity. The monument was raised in the city's cemetery. At the Salon exhibites his bronzes were few in quantity, however it seems that the number of his works that were cast in bronze, judging by the proofs noted in different works and catalogs, were dispersed in public sale. Particularly, there has been an organized sale in 1883, on the 3rd of October, which was undoubtedly organized by Gaudez himself.
