Stair Galleries is pleased to announce the sale of property from the Manhattan apartment of the legendary Rolling Stones’ guitarist and his stunning model wife Patti Hansen on Saturday, June 24th.

The brilliantly colorful Upper East Side apartment was conceived by Patti as a European jewel box, filled with Italian, French and English furniture, decorations, and paintings. Patti worked with designer Carol Perry of Perry Associates in Connecticut to achieve the richly romantic apartment of her dreams. Patti was inspired by an elaborate pair of Italian rococo-style giltwood headboards upholstered in a deep cobalt blue silk velvet fit for a grand Roman Palazzo. She and her designer started with the deep wall colors and spent months combing antique shops on the East Coast and in London, finding the right piece for each room. Some of her best finds were found locally at the Park Avenue Armory Antique Shows over the years.

Some of the highlights from the boho-chic apartment are an Italian rococo giltwood console which was a focal point in the Tuscan orange painted dining room anchored by an elaborate Persian Tabriz carpet. The softly painted celadon living room had a layered look centered by an opulent Karabagh carpet surmounted by a Louis XV giltwood tabouret with damask upholstery and an English black lacquer tray on top. The walls were highlighted by three large pastel floral paintings by the French artist Jacqueline Marval that Patti found in a gallery in London. The unusual pair of Italian classically painted side cabinets flanked Keith Richards’ favorite piece, the English tufted leather Chesterfield sofa.

Included in the auction is a small selection of antiques and table top articles from their Connecticut home which Mica Ertegun of Mac II designed with Patti. They are selling an English silver-plated flatware service by Walker and Hall of Sheffield, an unusual Italian orange glass decanter by Paolo Venini, a set of eight Waterford crystal wine glasses and two Flemish tapestry pillows. The Edwardian painted satinwood four poster bed will be sold along with a Flemish Baroque walnut parquetry cabinet on stand.

All of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to SPHERE of CT and Prospector Theater in Ridgefield, CT, charities close to Mr. and Mrs. Richards’ hearts. Patti’s twenty-four-year-old nephew has autism and these organizations help adults with developmental disabilities to achieve their dreams.

Online Only Decorative Arts - Session Two

Gallery Exhibition:

Monday, June 19 - 10am to 4pm
Tuesday, June 20 - 10am to 4pm

Additional Information:

A variety of other decorative items will appear in the Decorative Arts online auction on June 21st & 22nd. The sale includes jewelry, toys, coins, furniture, folk art, silver, and decorative items in a wide array of prices. The sale will feature Part II of the Jim and Patricia Doherty Paperweight Collection. This sale will also include a large collection of coins.

Online Only Auctions at Pook & Pook are live auctions, not timed auctions. They run just like a regular salesroom auction with the lots being sold one at a time in lot number order. The only difference is that there are no bidders in the salesroom or on the phones. All bidding, both live and absentee, is taking place online through online bidding platforms. You can leave absentee bids up until a few minutes before an item sells. You can also bid live when the item crosses the auction block. Once the item is live, outbid notices cease. When the bidding slows down, a five second countdown begins. If nobody clicks bid during that five second countdown, the clerk then clicks ‘sold’. If someone does click bid, the countdown clock resets to five seconds and the countdown begins again. For the Online Only Auctions we sell approximately 150 lots per hour. If you have any additional questions about how our Online Only Auctions work, please call (610) 269-4040 or email info@pookandpook.com. The buyer’s premium for this auction is 25%.

We discovered a cache of close to 9000 pieces of art, executed by the leading museum grade artists of the seventies and eighties. This collection was to be used in a tax shelter, but the IRS disavowed the shelter and the art lay dormant, untouched and unseen in warehouses since the early eighties!

The M.J.G.P. serendipitously heard about this collection and acquired the entire treasure trove of rare investment-grade art!

Part One of this auction includes artists such as Rauschenberg, Arman, Hultberg, Krushenick, Matsutani, to name a few.

All pieces are unframed and in pristine condition.

Sunday June 4, 2017 starting @ 12pm

Late Night Preview: Saturday June 3rd 11am-7pm

Santa Monica Auctions at Bergamot Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA will be hosting its annual June Auction Sunday, June 4th starting at 12pm and continuing throughout the afternoon. There will also be a late night preview held the Saturday evening before, June 3rd, 11am until 7pm.

Santa Monica Auctions has been holding exclusively Fine Art auctions in Santa Monica since 1984. Various works of all media from across the globe are auctioned off, many times at a small fraction of the retail value of an artwork. Works include: paintings, prints, multiples, photographs and sculpture.

The 2017 Auction Highlights include a rare, never before seen unique work by Richard Pettibone. Acclaimed for his “pocket-sized” appropriations of modernist masters, Pettibone is highly sought after, now more than ever. This unique work is a rare “combine” which combines multiple modern master works within one miniature canvas - Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella and two Andy Warhol infamous images. Another highlight piece is a beautiful self portrait by Chuck Close, featuring the artist in his unique style of pixelated spots rendering a self portrait of the artist in a yellow raincoat. 100% of the hammer sale price will go to the Compassionate Touch Network based in New Mexico, who are committed to promoting mental health literacy for youth, teens and adults utilizing eduction and the arts. These museum quality works are amongst other masterworks by artists such as: Raymond Pettibon, Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney, Pablo Picasso, Chuck Close, Alex Prager, Larry Bell, Christopher Wool, Ed Moses, Man Ray and many others.
