American, 1925-1975. David Webb was an American jeweler acclaimed for his original, modern designs. His celebrity clientele, the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Barbra Streisand exposed his works to an elite audience and helped weave a fashionable and iconic career for the already respected jeweler. Most distinctive was his carved and enameled animal bracelets, bold gold necklaces and exquisite rock crystal pieces. The famous David Webb workshop in New York has been exclusively producing his distinguished designs since 1948. David Webb harnessed inspiration from frequent trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and studied the jewelry and objects of ancient cultures, which he refashioned into modern designs, “I had a tremendous feeling of art in me. I wanted to be an archaeologist, a ceramicist, or a jeweler. Jewelry won out.”
