Clown on a Merry-Go-Round When I was a kid And the circus came to town, It was the merry-go-round We ran to- It glittered with mirrors And red and gold paint Strange figures carved on the top rim Had a mystery- Round and round went the merry-go-round With the animals Going up and down Galloping through air On their brass poles- The old calliope music Ground itself out Raw and sweet! To this day The sound of that music Pulls me back for a ride As it pulled me then Into the big tent for my life! 35 Clown on a Merry-Go-Round When was a kid And the circus came to town, It was the merry-go-round We ran to- It glittered with mirrors And red and gold paint Strange figures carved on the top rim Had a mystery- Round and round went the merry-go-round With the animals Going up and down Galloping through air On their brass poles- The old calliope music Ground itself out Raw and sweet!
