  Franz Hogenberg (1535 Mechen - 1590 Cologne): together with Georg BRAUN (1541 Cologne - 1622 ibid), Map of Saint-Omer, Pas-de-Calais, France, 16th century, Etching

  Technique: Etching on Paper

  Inscription: lower left inscribed in the printing plate: "S. Audomari Fanum, S. Ausmer, Omer. Iccius portus Abrahamo Orttelio, Artesi urbs munitissima". Verso further inscription: "S.Audomari".

  Description: Veduta from the circle of the work of Frans HOGENBERG (1535 Mechelen - 1590 Cologne) and Georg BRAUN (1541 Cologne - 1622 ibid.): "Civitates Orbis Terrarum. De Praecipuis, Totius Universi Urbibus, Cologne 1593". Modelled on the maps of Abraham Ortelius (1527 Antwerp - 1598 ibid.).

  Condition

  Rather good condition. The paper is discoloured due to its age. Like all with vertical centrefold. Here partly discoloured and rubbed. Several marginal tears in the upper centre. Light discolourations are visible in places.
