Jacques Barbié (18th century): Portrait of the French General François de Chevert (1695 Verdun - 1769 Paris), 18th century, Copper engraving
Technique: Copper engraving on Paper
Date: 18th century
Size: Paper: 15,5 cm x 9,2 cm (6,1 x 3,6 in)
Description: After a model by "Hischbein", probably Johann Heinrich Tischbein (1722-1789). Portrait in honour of the military achievements of the Governor of Givet and Charlemont and General in the battles of the First Silesian War and the Seven Years' War. Half-length portrait in quarter profile in oval. Below is a relief plate depicting a scene of triumph on the battlefield. Inscribed in the printing plate and signed by the artist at the bottom.
