  Description: Very beautiful print from the hand of the German artist Carl T. von Piloty. After an initial training with his father, Piloty went to the Munich Academy in 1840 to Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld. Study trips took him to Brussels, Antwerp and Paris, where he became acquainted with the colourism and realism of Belgian-French history painting and received decisive impulses from works by Louis Gallait and Paul Delaroche. Appointed director of the Munich Academy. Piloty, who became famous for his large-format history paintings with their pathetic stagings, can be regarded as a pioneer of Wilhelminian painting in Germany.Inscribed below the image in the printing plate "Originalradirung von Dr. Carl v. Piloty. Published by Montmorillon's Kunsthandlung.
