Dimensions: 4 by 6.5". Vertot's chronicle of the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, also referred to as the Knights Hospitaller and subsequently the Knights of Rhodes and Knights of Malta, was a great success when it was first published in 1726. It shows the Christians—led by the Frenchmen—fighting valiantly against the Infidels. But the pope received no respect, and the book was swiftly denounced by the Order of Malta and added to the Rome Book Index in 1728. "Discours sur l'Alcoran," pp. 382-416, is a chapter included in the fifth part.
