Description: ITA NUNC EOSDEM PER CONCINNERAT OLIM VINDEX CESELIUS, ANTIQUARUM LECTIONUM PER INCURIAM INTERCEPTOS [...]. by RICCHIERI, Lodovico It was created in 1517 (dated at colophon) as a joint project between Jodocus van Ashe Badius, one of the greatest printers of the French Renaissance, and Jehan Petit, who printed under the alias Joanne Paruo. Even though they co-funded the book's printing and, as the title page suggests, sold it in each of their separate businesses, it is clear from the book's colophon that Badius printed the book in his print shop, the Praelum Ascensianum, also known as the Ascension Press. A comprehensive "encyclopedia" examining the philological interpretations of selected passages from ancient literary and historical works by Ricchieri (1469-1525), Milanese professor of Greek, and edited by Bade; title within typical Bade's Renaissance woodcut borders. In his preface, Bade notes that he is selling his books for half as much as their peers. Folio: 9 by 13" [75-1 bl.]-779-[1 bl.] pp.
It is believed that Rabelais drew heavily on this volume for his writings. Original binding: quarter blindstamped pigskin on bevelled timber boards, raised bands on the spine; no clasps (worm holes, back board cracked, bottom corner missing); few period manuscript comments.
