Latin text. Pietro Bembo, O.S.I.H. (Petrus Bembus in Latin; 1470–1547) was an Italian scholar, poet, and literary theorist who was also a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Knights Hospitaller. Pietro Bembo was an Italian Renaissance scholar who lived from 15th to 16th century. He had a significant impact on the evolution of the Tuscan dialect as a literary language for poetry and prose, which was eventually codified into a standard language and became the modern Italian language. Bembo's books, essays, and poems were crucial in the 16th century in rekindling interest in Petrarch's writings. In the realm of music, Bembo's literary writing methods assisted composers in creating the compositional strategies that led to the madrigal becoming the most significant secular work of 16th-century Italy.
