Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel created one of the most famous international fashion brands the world has ever known. Starting with a small millinery shop in Paris in 1910, she quickly expanded to luxurious jersey sportswear that caught the attention of Parisian society women who clamored for Coco Chanel designs as an escape from their previous corsetted looks. Chanel also made black a chic color in fashion instead of being only reserved for funerals and mourning. In 1921, she was the first fashion house to create a fragrance, the famous Chanel No.5 which was highly successful and still one of the most popular frangrances on the market. Coco Chanel created some of the most iconic designs and styles including the quilted handbag, little black dress, collarless suit, and interlocking C logo.
