Spanish, 1893-1983. Joan Miro was a Catalan painter, sculptor and ceramicist born in Barcelona. Before his debute in the art industry, he was a business student and started his career as a clerk, which he soon abandoned after suffering a nervous breakdown. His style pioneered the Automatism method of drawing that represented the human psyche, and was considered matured and evolved. His works are said to have derived inspiration from the realities of modern life, combined with his poetic impulse and Surrealist fantasies. He was popular for his experimental methods of creating art, lithographs and murals, tapestries and sculptures in public places.
