Note: Anish Kapoor has consistently investigated the ability of polished, concave surfaces to destabilize perception and challenge the physical limits of sculpture. Untitled exemplifies this pursuit through its smooth recessed form, whose white exterior contrasts sharply with a saturated blue interior. The work draws the viewer’s gaze inward, creating an optical depth that appears to extend beyond the object itself.
Kapoor achieves striking optical effects in his large-scale installations, at times causing the structures to seem as though they dissolve into their surroundings. In more recent, smaller works such as Untitled, he turns his focus toward fields of pure, uninterrupted color.
The importance of Untitled is further underscored by its inclusion in Christie’s prestigious 11th Hour Auction in support of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. The landmark sale brought together works by leading contemporary artists, achieved numerous world auction records, and raised approximately $38.8 million for global environmental initiatives. Selection for this auction positioned Kapoor’s work among the most culturally and commercially significant artworks of its time, affirming both its artistic importance and its role within a broader international effort that linked contemporary art with environmental advocacy. - Shipping Info
