American or English, early 19th century. A biblical embroidered needlework pictorial sampler stitched in silk threads on linen ground entitled 'Abraham offering up his son Isaac'. Upper portion of sampler depicts an Angel of the Lord on a cloud above Abraham who is standing on grassy hilltop holding a knife above his head, to one side a cooking pot, the other side Isaac is bound on top of a pile of wood. Below a stitched poem about how Abraham was tested. Sampler is further decorated with antlered bucks, cupid, a butterfly, animal in foliage, windmill, tree and figure with horse, all within a decorative border. Sampler is framed under glass.
