- Lot Description
David Porter (American, 1912-2005), "Composition in Red"-1961, mixed media collage on wood board, signed lower right of center, additional inscriptions on verso including title, date of execution "August 16, 1961" as well as a vintage label from Dain/Schiff Picture Framers Inc., New York. Modern mixed media artwork composed of multicolored paper strips with letters, numbers, and patterns with rough and torn edges overlapping throughout and with brown staining throughout creating a weathered and slight tonal aesthetic, some with solid red field. Overall framed approximately 16.125" square. Unframed approximately 15.5" square. Provenance: Lord & Taylor Art Gallery, New York whereby acquired by the Estate of Mr. Joseph Gilbert, Atlanta, Georgia on 2/4/64.
