Etruscan, circa 4th century B.C. A red, black, and white slipped terracotta Kyathos or drinking cup on custom wood stand, the shallow round bowl with everted base and flared rim decorated to interior with four pointed black star form, the rim with band of red slip, the exterior with bands of red and black slip, the underside with ring of black slip decoration, and the tall loop handle with black and red ladder form decoration. Kyathos approximate height 4.25", diamter of bowl approximately 5.75", depth back of handle to rim 6.25". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Benno & Babette Rothschild, Columbus, Georgia.
Wear to patina throughout. Scattered nicks and chips to rim with largest on left side. Chip loss to pottery on red border on interior of bowl. Scattered chips and losses to handle, largest on left interior. Scattered abrasions and surface wear commensurate with age. Under black light examination, little to no retouches. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
