Circle of Joseph Ducreaux (French, 1735-1802). "Portrait of Young Girl with Dog", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Ovular formatted portrait depicting a young aristocratic girl in three quarters length standing within a draped area before a landscape at right, her face bearing porcelain skin and curled hair with wide set blue eyes and smiling lips, with a King Charles Spaniel on a draped stool to left under the subject's arm as she wears a gown of rich blue silk over a white shirt bearing her left shoulder. Framed approximately 37.5" x 32.5", unframed approximately 30" x 25".
Painting has been relined. Under black light examination, light scattered retouches including some areas on right side of cheek, background and on textile in foreground. Some cloudiness under black light from older varnish coat. Light scattered craquelure commensurate with age however paint layer stable with no signs of lifting. No signs of rips, tears or holes.
