Likely English, circa 19th century. A pair of giltwood wall sconces each with mirrored backplates, in the Chinese Chippendale style, surmounted by an acanthus carved scrolled crest terminating in a c-scrolled acanthus leaf over a cyma curved cornice molding with rocaille gallery, the mirror framed by columns, an acanthus scroll, and a trailing vine, the cyma curved base molding with rocaille skirt surmounting three rocaille c scrolls joined at base. Approximate height 34.5", width 15", depth 6".
Both with wear to gilt and minor scattered losses to gilt. One with break to top right (on shaped cornice) scrolled foliate on break and earlier repair--loosely held on; slight hairline split at uppermost elements at joint; break with earlier repair to left arched element near where meets cornice; loss to cascading rocks under cornice; split with earlier repair on scrolled foliate behind cascading rocks on lower shaped cornice shelf. The other with loss to wood at bottom foliate, split under lower display shelf at right.
