Irish, first half 18th century. A rare set of Queen Anne burl walnut side chairs, six 18th century and two later models. The chairs incorporate shell carvings on the top rail, front of the seat, and knees. The familiar vasiform back splat, shaped seats, cabriole legs, and pad feet complete the rest of the Queen Anne aesthetic. Approx. h. 39.75", w. 21.25", d. 16.375. Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. and Mrs. David Cram. Catalog Note: Lot is accompanied with a receipt of purchase from Arthur Brett & Sons in 1987 for 25,000 sterling pounds. An original appraisal from Butterfield & Butterfield from 1987 for $65,000 is available upon request.
