Chief Rojas was a legend among the California Vaqueros and was famous for selling bits to trainers and their clients in California in the 1950s through the 1980s. Rojas is the most celebrated chronicler of the life and lore of the California Vaquero, which he did in volumes of books that he published in his mid 50s.
The included auction card from Bobby Ingersoll lists the bit as ‘Rojas U.S. style,’ however the bit is clearly incised “Lopez Espana” and matches known models of Rojas bits.
