A Klamath River Twined Woman's Basketry Hat. Early 20th Century. A Tri Color hat of superior quality was woven in concentric ring designs highlighted by shark tooth style triangles in black and yellow in several places. Half-twist overlay twining was done over a hazel warp with a base weft of pine root. The designs are woven in yellow bear-grass, and black maidenhair fern, set against a field of red-dyed Woodwardia sp. The style of the hat indicated that it was likely Yurok.
Dimensions: 6.5' diameter. 3.5" high.
