Large Northwest Coast imbricated basket, likely Klickitat or Coast Salish, woven in coiled cedar root with polychrome imbricated decoration in natural, dark brown, and muted red tones. The basket features a tapered bucket form with slightly flared rim and displays repeating geometric panel motifs arranged symmetrically around the body.
The imbricated technique—where decorative elements are overlaid within the stitch—demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship, with tight, consistent weaving and well-executed pattern transitions. The scale and form suggest utilitarian use, possibly for storage or gathering.
