Southeast Asia, Burma, Mandalay Period, ca. 19th century CE. A large, beautifully carved example of the Buddha standing in a classic Mandalay style pose. With his left hand, he holds the end of his robe; with the right he holds a myrobalan seed, an herbal medicine used to treat physical disorders and to achieve an elevated mental state that is said to facilitate meditation. His robes are wonderfully rendered, with delicate floral motifs along its edges and a molded brass cap forming the top of his head and hair complete with coronet. He stands atop an integral square-edged lotus platform. His serene features and skillfully carved face complete the figure. Size: 12.75" W x 26.75" H (32.4 cm x 67.9 cm); 28.5" H (72.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Small, stable fissure along one hand and several others along the back, all the result of weathering. Also a small circular divot in the lower back of the robe. Very small areas of inactive insect damage. Otherwise in very nice condition with great preservation of form, details, and excellent patina on both wood and brass surfaces.
