Europe, Victorian Period, ca. 19th century CE. A sizable ovoid carnelian intaglio of brilliant red hues, depicting a bearded male in profile facing left that has been skillfully carved into the stone. The details are incredible. Note how realistic his face is, presenting open eyes, an aquiline nose, arched brow line, pursed full lips, and most impressive - that thick mustache, curly beard, and coiffure with locks falling to his neckline, crowned by a laurel leaf wreath. Size: 1.125" W x 1.375" H (2.9 cm x 3.5 cm)
