Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Yupik / Inuit / Aleut people, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A group of three traditional harpoon heads crafted from walrus ivory, bone, and metal. Two feature slotted sockets designed to hold detachable blades - one fashioned from steel, the other from brass. The third head displays three large, carved barbs for secure penetration. Each piece is drilled for cord attachment, reflecting the ingenious design: once embedded in the prey, the head would detach from the handle shaft while remaining tethered by a rope, anchoring the blade in the flesh and allowing the hunter to draw the animal to boat or shore more easily. Size of largest: 5" L x 1.5" W (12.7 cm x 3.8 cm)
