Native American, southwestern United States, Four Corners region, Southern Colorado Plateau, Pueblo I/Pueblo II (Anasazi) period, ca. 875 to 1050 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a round but stable base, a bulbous body with two lateral protrusions flanking the base of the tall neck, a rounded back side, and an arching strap handle joining neck to back. The exterior displays an intricate register of stairway-like bands filled with diagonal linear motifs, free sections of triangular points filled with similar lines, and a dense latticework pattern atop the handle. All embellishments are applied in black mineral paint atop a white-hued ground and are painted in a style typical of Chaco Canyon called "Red Mesa Black-on-White." Size: 6" L x 5.25" W x 6.25" H (15.2 cm x 13.3 cm x 15.9 cm).
