Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. This baboon faience amulet depicts the animal squatting on an ovoid plinth, with its hands raised and held over its mouth, and a suspension loop on the verso. The amulet is made from faience, a glazed ceramic material, and features vibrant turquoise-blue coloring, a common hue used in ancient Egyptian amulets for its symbolic connection to fertility, the Nile river, and rebirth. The baboon, often linked with the god Thoth, was revered in ancient Egyptian culture for its association with wisdom, knowledge, and the moon. Size: 0.9" W x 1.7" H (2.3 cm x 4.3 cm)
