Southeast Asia, Northeastern Thailand, Ban Chiang culture, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A hand-built pottery dish resting atop a flared pedestal-form foot. The upper body is a vessel bearing gently carinated walls and a flared rim, and the exterior surfaces are decorated with sweeping linear motifs in applied red pigment. Condition
Pedestal foot is attached to bottom of vessel and may not be original to the upper body; this area has resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines beneath body. Repair to area of rim with heavy adhesive residue along break lines. Chips and fissures to rim, with fading to pigment in scattered areas, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
