Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Valle Del Cauca, Calima culture, Yotoco phase, ca. 300 to 1300 CE. A hand-built pottery alcarraza vessel in the shape of a plump bird with folded wings, a plump body, and a petite tail atop a flared foot. The squat head protrudes from the chest and bears incised eyes above a chisel-shaped beak, and a semicircular handle arches between a pair of narrow conical spouts. Earthy red slip envelops the entire vessel and imbues it with a signature Calima presentation. Size: 4.9" W x 5.125" H (12.4 cm x 13 cm)
