- Lot Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. Delightful pottery jar in the form of a deer in buff terracotta with added brown pigment. Bulbous jar in burnished clay with large protruding head of an antlered deer and its small nubbin tail extending from the opposite side. A really cute and unusual vessel! Size: 9.75" L x 7" H (24.8 cm x 17.8 cm)
Provenance: private Parker, Colorado, USA collection; ex-Arte Primitivo, New York, USA, February 25, 2025, lot 377; ex-Jack Bregman collection, New York City, New York, USA, acquired prior to 1969 while in the Peace Corps, thence by descent
