Pre-Columbian, north coast Peru, Chavin-Cupisnique, ca. 1200 to 600 BCE. A hand-built brownware pottery bottle of a bell-shaped form with a flat base, tall walls, a rounded shoulder, a tapered spout, and a flared rim. The exterior of the body is adorned with three pairs of raised vertical bands decorated with incised diagonal striations that create a corded presentation. An attractive glossy surface has formed along the high burnishing marks and characterizes much of the vessel. Size: 4.9" W x 9.1" H (12.4 cm x 23.1 cm)

Condition
Restoration to central area of base with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Small chips to some raised bands on body, with minor abrasions and fading to original pigment, and very light encrustations within neck. Great surface smoothness and luster throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
