Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hand-built pottery figure of a warrior standing atop delineated legs and balancing with a rectangular 'tail' protruding from behind his waistband. The imposing warrior presents holding a tumi in his right hand and a ritual celt in his left and wears large earrings, a 'beaded' necklace, and a thick nose ring. A large semicircular panel of feathers radiates behind his back with rounded peripheral nodules, and an abstract, avian-form headdress with perky ears tops his head. Remains of white pigment suggest this figure was painted with vibrant colors at one time. Size: 4.375" W x 5.8" H (11.1 cm x 14.7 cm)
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-Roy Oswald collection, Arizona, USA, before 1995
